Die internationale Wahrnehmung der Nationalitätenpolitik Ungarns vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg war bereits in der Zeit der Doppelmonarchie zunehmend negativ – und ist es bis heute geblieben. Ziel dieser Konferenz ist es, dieses düstere Bild mit Hilfe neuer Forschungsergebnisse zu nuancieren. Dabei geht es nicht darum, negative Aspekte zu leugnen, sondern vielmehr darum, weniger beachtete Elemente stärker ins Blickfeld zu rücken – etwa die nationalen Eliten, die mit dem ungarischen Staat kooperierten. Im Rahmen der Veranstaltung wird auch die neue Ausgabe von Géza Jeszenszkys Buch Lost Prestige präsentiert.
